Join us for a transformative full-day workshop, "Assembled Altered Portraits," where imagination meets storytelling in an artistic journey. You will delve deep into the art of portraiture, uncovering the hidden narratives that inform our identities. Through a process of curating vintage photographs, modern papers and images and a wide variety of found objects, you will define and create a storyline for your chosen subject—whether it's about a loved one, a historical figure or icon, or an abstract representation of yourself. This narrative will guide you in further defining how you choose to use the art mediums and found objects to complete an iconic portrait. This exploration lays the groundwork for creating a portrait that transcend mere likeness, inviting viewers to engage with the essence of the combined imagery's story and significance.
Once the foundation of storytelling is established, you will immerse yourself in the dynamic world of assemblage art. Utilizing a rich array of traditional and cutting-edge techniques, participants will transform found objects into vibrant expressions to enhance and further the story of their portrait character. From vintage photographs and fabric to repurposed materials, each altered portrait will be a unique convergence of craftsmanship and imagination. As we navigate this artistic landscape together, students will leave with not only their completed masterpieces but also a deeper understanding of how to weave together elements of art, story, and identity in powerful, personal ways. Whether you're an experienced artist looking to experiment or a curious beginner eager to explore, this workshop promises a day of inspiration and creativity that you won’t want to miss! Students must be 18 years of age or older please.
